Ce fut une soiree memorable ! En plus nous avons eu l'honneur d'avoir parmi nous notre nouveau Consul General du Canada, Monsieur Mario Ste-Marie et sa famille.

Un gros merci a Geert and Joannie et les employes du Essen Restaurant and Beer Cafe.

Il y avait tellement de bouffe et l'atmosphere etait fantastique.

Nous avons fait un tirage pour ramasser des fonds pour le www.seashepherd.org !  Nous avons ramasse $250 et j'envoie le cheque et la carte que vous avez signe a l'organisation cette semaine.

Regardez le website et encouragez cette organisation !  Le capitaine Paul Watson est Canadien et l'an dernier cette organisation a sauve plus de 1,600 baleines qui normalement auraient ete tues par les Japonais pour "Scientific Research !")  Cette annee, ils ont decide de mettre 30 millions en securite contre le Sea Shepherd.  En plus, ils prennent l'argent que vous avez genereusement donne pour aider le peuple japonais durant durant le tremblement de terre (30 millions de dollars).  Sea Shepherd ont besoin de beaucoup d'argent, specialement pour le petrole.  En plus, ils sont tous des volontaires.  Alors soyez genereux et faites des dons.

It is great value !  Show only is $14.30 and dinner and show $38.80.  The food is great by the way, I tried their menu a few times.

CHRISTMAS PARTY on DECEMBER 17th !

What a great evening, it was so fun.  We also had the pleasure of having with us our new Consul General of Canada, Mr. Mario Ste-Marie with his family.

THANK YOU ! to Geert, Joannie and the staff from Essen Restaurant and Beer Cafe.  The food was so amazing, and we had plenty of food !  The atmosphere was just great !

We raised $250 with the raffle money for the www.seashepherd.org

I will send the cheque next week as well as the greeting card that you signed at the party.  This organisation needs a lot of money and help.  We need to save our marine life and whales.  The Captain Paul Watson is Canadian and everyone is a volonteer.  As you know the Japanese are killing our whales for "scientific research !!".  Sea Shepherd saved over 1,600 whales last year and the Japanese managed to killed around 170.  This year they are coming back with extra security against the Sea Shepherd and they are using the money ($30 millions) from the earthquake (Japan relief funds) to kill our innocent whales !

Bienvenue  a notre nouveau Consul General du Canada a Sydney, Monsieur Mario Ste-Marie

J'aimerais souhaiter la bienvenue à notre nouveau Consul General du Canada à Sydney. Monsieur Mario Ste-Marie qui est le premier Québécois nommé à ce poste depuis l'ouverture des bureaux consulaires en 1895.

J'ai eu le plaisir de rencontrer Monsieur Ste-Marie et nous avons discuté du rôle du Quebec Oz Club à Sydney.  Il sera en poste au Consulat Géneral de Sydney pour les prochains quatre (4) ans.

Je vais tenter d'organiser une rencontre avec le nouveau Consul Géneral du Canada et les membres du Quebec Oz Club dans les prochains mois.

Voici sa biographie !

Mario Ste-Marie
Consul general du Canada à Sydney

Mario Ste-Marie (B.Sc.A. [économie et agriculture], Université Laval, 1980) entre à la fonction publique en 1980 en tant qu’économiste au ministère de l’Agriculture. En 1987, il est nommé secrétaire ministériel exécutif au cabinet du sous-ministre et, ultérieurement, chef de cabinet du ministre d’État (Agriculture). En 1990, il passe au ministère des Affaires extérieures et du Commerce extérieur pour se joindre à l’équipe de négociations du GATT au sein de laquelle il occupe les postes de conseiller principal aux affaires fédérales et provinciales et de négociateur adjoint pour l’agriculture. En 1994, il retourne à Agriculture et Agroalimentaire Canada à titre de conseiller principal en matière de politiques. Il devient ensuite directeur de la Politique économique et des Affaires relatives à Industrie Canada à l’Agence de développement économique du Canada, pour la région du Québec. En 2001, il accède aux fonctions de directeur général de la Direction de la planification et de la gestion des activités à Santé Canada, puis à celles de directeur général des Collections multimédias et spéciales aux Archives nationales du Canada. En 2005, M. Ste-Marie revient à Affaires étrangères et Commerce international Canada pour y occuper le poste de directeur général de l’Investissement au Canada. En 2009, il est nommé directeur du programme commercial pour l’Inde à New Delhi. Lui et sa conjointe, Anne Lessard, ont trois enfants, Renaud, Jeanne et Jérôme.

A WARM WELCOME to our new Consul General of Canada in Sydney, Mr. Mario Ste-Marie.  Mr. Ste-Marie is the first Quebecois to be nominated in this role since the opening of the consulate's offices in 1895.

I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Ste-Marie to discuss the role of the Quebec Oz Club in Sydney.  Mr. Ste- Marie will be living in Sydney with his family for the next four years.

I will try to organise a meeting soon with the new Consul General of Canada and the Quebec Oz Club.

Consul General of Canada in Sydney
Mario Ste-Marie (BScA [Economics and Agriculture], Laval University, 1980) joined the public service in 1980 as an economist with the Department of Agriculture. In 1987, he became executive secretary of the department in the Deputy Minister’s Office and later chief of staff in the Office of the Minister of State (Agriculture). In 1990, he transferred to the Department of External Affairs and International Trade to join the negotiating team working on the GATT negotiations as a senior federal and provincial affairs advisor and assistant negotiator for agriculture. In 1994, he returned to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada as a senior policy advisor. He later became director of Economic Policy and Industry Canada Portfolio with the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Region of Quebec. In 2001, he became director general of the Business Planning and Management Directorate at Health Canada, then director general of Multimedia and Special Collections with National Archives of Canada. In 2005, he became director general of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade’s Invest in Canada Bureau. In 2009, he became trade program manager for India in New Delhi. He and his spouse, Anne Lessard, have three children, Renaud, Jeanne and Jérôme. Mr. Ste-Marie succeeds Thomas MacDonald as Consul General of Canada in Sydney.
